LibArt entries due April 12, with opportunities to win cash prizes

KU students from all disciplines and backgrounds are encouraged to submit their work to the KU Libraries’ LibArt exhibition by April 12. Students can win cash awards, which will total $2,000 for this year.

LibArt is a year-round, student exhibition of art throughout KU Libraries that aims to showcase and support artistic talents by providing an opportunity for student work to gain publicity while also awarding cash to exceptional artwork.

“Student work submitted and accepted into the LibArt exhibit is viewed by thousands of library patrons in the various branches and online over the course of the academic year,” said Rebecca Schroeder, LibArt Committee Chair and Murphy Art & Architecture Library Operations Manager. “LibArt is an opportunity for non-art majors to share their work with the university community.”

The exhibit accepts original artwork in various mediums, including ready-to-hang physical artwork, images, and videos – no audio will be played at the exhibition, but students are welcome to submit their media with audio. More information about eligibility requirements can be found on the LibArt Submission Guidelines page.

Local artists selected as judges will evaluate the artwork and will provide constructive feedback to students for the competition portion. Awards will be announced and presented at a recognition ceremony in late September. The artwork will be displayed from August to May. When the exhibit is taken down at the end of the academic year, students can also sell their pieces.
