Recall Policies

Using Recall

Recall is a service where KU patrons (faculty, staff, and students) can recall a library item that is checked out more than six weeks. KU patrons cannot recall a checked out library item that is due in two weeks or less, but they can place a hold on those items. You will receive a Item Available email notice when your recalled item has been returned and is on the hold shelf at the KU Libraries Service Desk for you. KU resident borrowers are NOT available for the Recall service.

Recall Requests

KU patrons can make a Recall request by going to the Library Catalog and looking up the item they want. If the item they found is checked out, they need to click on the "Recalls & Requests" button at the top of the web page. Then they need to login using their KU username and password (as in their KU email account), and then select Recall from the drop down menu and click OK. Complete the form and select a pick up location and submit.
