Library Exhibit FAQ
What services are available to me
when preparing my exhibit?
The Conservation Unit cannot help prepare exhibits for libraries
other than Spencer. However, we will provide advice and minimal training
to other staff. Please contact Conservation staff at 864-3429.
How much advance notice do I need to give the Conservation
Unit?
Please give Conservation staff at least two weeks' advance notice if you will
need assistance. We recognize that sometime emergencies happen
at the last minute, but the Conservation Unit is a working lab and staff cannot
always accommodate last-minute requests.
Who does the work?
Conservation Unit staff will provide advice and training on how to mount the
exhibit, but the exhibitor is responsible for printing labels and mounting
items.
How do I secure the materials I need
for mounting the exhibit?
Contact Denise Swartz (4-8919) for supplies. If KU Libraries does not have the supplies
you need, the Exhibits Committee has a limited budget for exhibit supplies. Contact them early to request funds to allow time to order what is
needed.
Conservation
is happy to provide minimal assistance for exhibit preparation; however
please keep in mind that the primary mission of the Conservation Unit is
to restore damaged materials in the Libraries’ collections to workable condition
and not to prepare exhibits for others.
