Conservation Unit

The Conservation Unit is the flagship of the Preservation Department, and is responsible for performing a variety of book repair and conservation treatments on materials from the Libraries' diverse collections. The Conservation Unit has two conservation laboratories--the main lab in Watson Library (the Jerry and Katherine Stannard Conservation Laboratory) and a smaller laboratory in the Spencer Research Library.

The University of Kansas Libraries’ Conservation Unit strives to reach the following goals:

  • Increase access to library materials
  • Perform high-quality conservation treatments
  • Maintain a high level of treatment production
  • Increase visibility of conservation within the Libraries, the University of Kansas, the state of Kansas, and nation.
