Noise Policy
KU Libraries are committed to providing a welcoming environment that is conducive to a variety of study needs. These guidelines were developed in response to input from students, faculty and visitors about noise levels in the libraries. Noise should be kept to a minimum throughout the library, and the following guidelines are strictly enforced. All library employees are authorized to resolve any noise complaints.

Quiet Study Areas are designated in all of the libraries. No conversation and no phone use are permitted in Quiet Study areas.
- Quiet Study areas in Anschutz are located on 1st and 2nd floors
- Quiet Study areas in Watson are located on 4th and 5th floors and the library stacks

Group Study is permitted in all places that are not designated Quiet Study Areas. However, conversations should be kept at a low volume.

Silence cell phones: Cell phones and pagers must be turned off or set to silent mode in all of the libraries

Cell Zones: If you must use your cell phone to make or receive calls, please go to one of the cell phone friendly areas, keep it brief and at a low volume
- Cell zone areas in Anschutz: 3rd floor front entrance and stairwells
- Cell zone areas in Watson: 3rd floor lobby area, cafe

Music (even with earphones) that is loud enough to disturb others is prohibited.
