The University of Kansas Libraries
KU Libraries to host science fiction book sale November 4 through 6
The University of Kansas Libraries will host a science fiction book sale in Watson Library’s third floor on Tuesday November 4 through Thursday November 6.
The sale, which offers an estimated 4,000 books, will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 10 p.m. each day. It is open to the public on Wednesday and Thursday. On Tuesday, patrons must have a KU Card in order to purchase books.
The sale includes books that have been acquired by the collections efforts of KU Emeritus Professor James Gunn, director of the Center for the Study of Science Fiction, the libraries’ duplicate holdings and those that do not meet collection development guidelines. A small number of non-science fiction books will also be included in this sale.
Hardcover books will be priced at $3 and paperback books will be $1. Payments can be made with cash or Master Card or Visa credit or debit cards (no checks, please). On Thursday, bags of books will be sold for $5.
Proceeds from the sale will support processing and development for the science fiction collection at KU Libraries. Unsold books will be donated to a non-profit organization dedicated to literacy programs.
Upcoming book sale dates include:
February 3-5, 2008
April 7-9, 2009
For more information about the sale, please contact KU Librarian Lea Currie at 785-864-8997.
