KU Libraries International Area Studies congratulates the university’s international area centers on a new $8.9 million grant

August 3, 2009

Four centers  at the University of Kansas will receive grants totaling $8.9 million over the next four years from the U. S. Department of Education. They are the Center of Latin American Studies, the Center for East Asian Studies,   the Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies and the   Kansas African Studies Center.

“We are extremely pleased to see these centers secure this crucial funding through the National Resource Center Title VI grants,” said Lorraine J. Haricombe, dean of KU Libraries. “I’d like to congratulate the faculty and staff involved, and thank the librarians in area studies who contributed information about our rich international collections to the grant applications.”

KU Libraries International Area Studies provides support for research and instruction to these centers, and has partnered with these centers for decades to develop outstanding collections of materials from Africa, East Asia, Latin America,  Russia and East Central Europe.
