Service Alert: Slow login times on public computers

Updated December 1, 2010

UPDATE 12/1/10: Quick-print workstations are now available in both Watson and Anschutz Libraries.

Users of public workstations in Anschutz, Watson and other library locations have reported slow login times. Support staff at KU Information Technology (KU IT), which supports and maintains public computers and networks in all library locations, report that they are working on the problem.

We understand patrons’ frustration and ask their patience as KU IT works to resolve this issue.

In the meantime, express printing stations are being set up in both Anschutz and Watson Libraries. At these workstations, users can print directly from a USB drive, email attachment or web storage (such as Hawk Drive) without logging in to the computer. Users will need their 16-digit ID number (found on their KU ID card) to print, and their Beak ’Em Bucks account will be debited as usual.

One express print workstation is available now at Anschutz; a second will be added in Anschutz and one will be set up in Watson Library within about a week.

Some users have also reported an inability to log on to wifi (the wireless network), as well as slow or dropped wifi connections in Anschutz and Watson Libraries.  KU IT plans to upgrade wireless in Anschutz levels 3 and 4 by the start of spring semester, and other library locations to follow.
