The University of Kansas Libraries
Library Faculty and Professionals Assembly
Unclassified Professionals Committee (UPC)
Unclassified Professional Excellence Award
The Unclassified Professionals (UP) Excellence Award recognizes outstanding professional performance and contribution to the University of Kansas Libraries. The UPC (via the Dean) sends out the call for nominations by the third Friday in January, or approximately two months before nominations are due, the third Friday in March. The Nomination Form: http://www.lib.ku.edu/lfpa/UPC/upc_award_nom_form.rtf can be submitted digitally via email (preferred method) or in hard copy.
The UPC and LFPA UP Representative select the award recipient the first year it is given. Each ensuing year, the UPC (through the Dean) solicit two UP volunteers for the selection committee, after nominations have been received. The previous year’s winner and the LFPA UP Representative are also be members of the award committee. At least two members of the selection committee interview each nominator, nominee’s supervisor and a co-worker for all award candidates using a standard form: http://www.lib.ku.edu/lfpa/UPC/upc_award_interview_form.rtf.
The selection committee reviews and discusses information from nomination forms and nominator interviews, and votes anonymously for the recommended recipient. The selection committee may choose not to give the award in a given year if quantity or quality of candidates is not high enough. The committee submits a recommended recipient to the Dean and Human Resources Director for final approval. Approval must be given by April 30 or earlier, so that the award can be announced in the Spring along with other KU Library employee awards. The Award is presented at an annual Library staff recognition event, currently the Celebration of Excellence held in the Fall, and includes a monetary gift of $500.
