A few words from the Dean – Dean Haricombe (5 minutes) [Introduction by Monica]
The Dean expressed her appreciation for University Support Staff and their role in the library. Her comments focused on the topics below.
Staff Development: She has forwarded a list of Staff Development topics to Donna Brewer and feels that Library Support Staff are ahead of many IS units in this regard. She emphasized her intention and the need to keep library staff development focus in the library even within the larger IS-wide context of Staff Development.
Dean has met with KULSS-Exec and has heard the interests staff have and what generates both passion and concern. There have been some common themes across other library groups as well. She is working with KULSS-Exec and these other groups to address these issues. “We can’t all be happy but we can respect each other as we work.” She describes herself and very much a people person and her door is open, but she is likely to be out and about with us people.
Donuts with the Dean: as stated above some opportunities to hear what interests people who work in the library and there were common themes. Such as:
- community building
- Library Picnic, Sep 30th, 5-8pm Broken Arrow Park
- professional development
- Noted the Administrative support to attend the KUMC Scholarly Communication Symposium and that “all of us need to know the issues of the library on a large scale. We all need to be informed and equipped at least with the bigger issues the library deals with”.
KULSS Exec progress report – Monica (5 minutes)
We’re focused on keeping up with staff development, and would like to encourage support staff to think about participating in IS-wide committees. We want to make sure support staff are represented at this level.
Among the list of items forwarded to Donna for Staff Development is a day long professional development workshop. Even if this is not done as IS-Wide Staff Development project, Administration has said that we will still do for the Library. We came up with a list of possible events for workshop, but encourage your ideas to be sent to your group rep.
Invitation to Libraries All-Staff Picnic, Saturday, September 30, 5-8 pm – Angie & Nishon (5 minutes)
Nishon and Angie presented a power point of the Top 10 Reasons you should attend the Library Picnic. It was emailed to kulib-l post meeting.
