Meeting Minutes
Thursday, October 6, 2005
Watson Conference Room B – 10-11:30 am

PRESENT: Monica Claasen-Wilson (FY06 Chair), Rebecca Claasen (FY06 Vice-Chair), Jill Becker (Group 3), Denise Swartz (Group 1), Erin Kidwell (Diversity Committee)

ABSENT: Robert Szabo (Group 4), Kevin Fussell (Group 2), Angie Rathmel (Secretary)

Previous meeting’s draft minutes approved. Monica will post draft minutes.

Review of previous meeting’s action items.

1. Monica submitted merit pay position paper. Mary Ann will forward to Senate.

Committee Reports:

Support Staff Senate

N/A

Diversity Committee

Showing the film, “Generations in the Workplace”, 10/6/05, 2:00-3:30, Watson CIC. Tuesday, 10/11/05, reading group discussing an article related to generations in the workplace meeting in the Kansas Union Walnut Room 11-12:30.
Erin Kidwell’s time as Diversity Committee chair is about to be over and the committee made a decision to have co-chairs for the next year. The co-chairs will be Erin Kidwell and Michelle Curttright.
The Diversity Committee’s website is now up (www.lib.ku.edu/diversity) and Michelle is the webmaster.
Still deciding if the “Diversity Beans” activity would be a good idea. They can’t reveal much about the activity because that would give it away.

Review minutes from meeting with Dean/HR Officer

Refer any questions about evaluations to Donna. Shannon Royer can be contacted for assistance with salary calculations.

Discuss orientation process for new staff (LFA is currently discussing this topic)

KULSS-Exec will send list of suggestions to Donna.

Suggestions by KULSS-Exec:

tours of libraries (periodically)
staff introductions
open houses (SDC)
parking permits/where to park
explanation of campus buildings and where they are (e.g. parking department)
tour of website/intranet
description of committees/groups and what they do
possible review of budget

Code and Guidelines Changes

Changes must be approved by group. Changing “classified” to “support staff”. Denise will make changes.

Group Reports

Group 1: Stella is retiring.

Group 2: N/A

Group 3: Sarah Couch is moving to a new office in the staff offices area on the third floor.

Group 4: N/A

The Next KULSS-Exec meeting will be on 10/20/05 from 10-11:30 in the Music and Dance Library.
