Classified Conference of the KU Libraries
June 11, 2003
Present: Mary Ann Baker (Chair.), Helen Dee (Vice-Chair.), Kurt Blythe (Secretary), Jesse Bryson (Group I Rep.), Janet Revenew (Group III Rep.), Kevin Fussell (Group II Rep.)
Absent: Lynn Koenig (Group IV Rep.)
Mary Ann Baker: A card and a bouquet of flowers are the least we can do to show our appreciation of Mary Ann's tenure as Chairperson of CC.
Nancy Hawkins Update: Wonderful news that Nancy Hawkins is recovering well.
June 16th Meeting w/ the Dean: Mary Ann Baker and Jeff McAdams will attend and carry to the Dean an agenda consisting of an extension of thanks to the Dean for her participation in the General Meeting; a request for information on the progress of training programs, especially supervisory training and IT classes; questions regarding the existence of any new State Personnel initiatives and/or directives, the progress of the new evaluation process, the implementation of a new time-in/out system and external key pads/cards for Watson, and mentoring for Classified staff; and, the provision of the cross training survey.
CCEB Meeting of the Old and New Board: This auspicious meeting will take place on the 9th of July.
Preparation for the Meeting of the Old and New Board: All members are charged with reviewing their duties.
Election Results and Appointments: The electronic balloting
produced no problems of consequence. The Secretary is charged with providing
Sandy Gilliland with the Grievance Committee vote counts.
List of Appointments:
· Staff Development Committee (SDC): Jane Hoyt and Pamela
Bonham will be joined by Jan Altenbernd and Billie Conway to round out
Classified staff's contribution to SDC.
· Classified Conference Personnel Committee (CCPC): Angie
Rathmel has agreed to serve as Chairperson. Bob Marvin and Janet Revenew
have volunteered to serve on the committee, as well.
o 1-4 other people are needed to serve on CCPC.
· Classified Employee of the Year Award (CEYA): Angie,
by dint of her future service with CCPC, will also serve on CEYA. She
will be accompanied by Toni Taylor and Helen Dee.
· Planning and Resource Committee (PRC): JoNell Proctor
has volunteered to serve alongside the continuing Nancy Hawkins and
Sue Hewitt.
Follow-up on General Meeting of 5/21/03: Thanks has been extended and received for set-up, clean-up and food. Receipts have been turned in and thank-you notes have been sent to the guests.
Libraries Value Statement: CCEB has no clear response to the value statement.
KU Info: Now under the umbrella of the Libraries.
Group II News: Tyca Griggs has resigned. Marilyn Landon and Kathy Clodfelter have retired.
SDC Workshop Expansion Proposal: There has been no follow-up from either side on the question of adding CPR courses or other less obviously library-related coursework to the catalog of SDC courses offered. The concept will be made a charge of CCPC.
Tuition Assistance for Internship Hours: Sue Hewitt reported that KU Classified Senate is checking into what other institutions do about providing tuition assistance for internship hours.
Mentoring Workshop: Unfortunately, the mentoring program will focus entirely on acclimatizing new faculty to the job for the foreseeable future. Eventually, the program may focus on unclassified and classified staff. CCEB will continue to keep reminding library administration of our interest, especially for Classified staff interested in and/or attending library school.
