Classified Conference of the KU Libraries

October 22, 2002

Present: Mary Ann Baker (Chairperson); Helen Dee (Vice-Chairperson); Kurt Blythe (Secretary); Jesse Bryson (Group I Representative); Kevin Fussell (Group II Representative); Janet Revenew (Group III Representative); Lynn Koenig (Group IV Representative); Nancy Hawkins

Committee Meetings:

Meeting with the Dean: Mary Ann Baker will meet, in accordance with her role as Chairperson of CCEB, with the Dean and the Personnel Officer on Friday, Nov. 1st, at 10:00 a.m. At this meeting, several ongoing projects and concerns of the CCEB will be discussed.

LFA: Mary Ann Baker and Jesse Bryson met with the Library Faculty Assembly (LFA) Executive Board to discuss the charges for the Staff Development Committee (SDC). All present agreed that the charges, at that time, were excessive in the attention they would ask of the members of SDC. The charges were amended to facilitate ease of accomplishment and submitted to SDC for implementation.

Employees Tuition Assistance Program: Kevin Fussell should act to notify Classified personnel of the Libraries of the details of the tuition assistance program.

Supervisory Training: The list of important aspects of supervisory training has been drafted and will forthwith be sent to Sandy Gilliland with comments attached.

Recognition Program: The supervisor recognition program, assuming the support of the constituency of CCEB, is tabled until after the Classified Employee of the Year Award (CEYA) committee finalizes their nominees. In the meantime, CCEB representatives will poll their constituents for approval of the measure.

The Diversity Committee: (DC) reports that Library staff are invited to join a DC listserv wherein topics of the moment may be discussed. DC is also preparing to organize a brown bag lunch when a video concerning patrons with disabilities will be shown.

Staff Development Committee: Janet Revenew and Kurt Blythe are charged with writing a proposal to SDC requesting that workshops dealing with topics outside the general run of work-related issues be offered to staff of the Libraries.

Other News:

· Mary Ann Baker's meet-and-greet with new (and relatively new) staff members proceeds apace.
· The time to review the two year-old Action Plan has come.
· The unofficial departmental organizational charts are still under construction.
