Classified Conference of the KU Libraries
August 28, 2002
Present: Mary Ann Baker (Chair), Kurt Blythe (Secretary), Jesse Bryson (Group I Rep.), Kevin Fussell (Group II Rep.), Janet Revenew (Group III Rep.), Lynn Koenig (Group IV Rep.), Al Mauler, Sue Hewitt
Group Rep. Reports:
1. Jesse Bryson reports that ILL's LA I position, left vacant by Jana Borchardt's departure, was successfully upgraded to a LA II and is currently being recruited. In addition, two more LA I positions have been authorized for recruitment in Serials.
An informal survey undertaken by Jesse has revealed that Human Resources workshops are much appreciated by Serials staff members. However, future participants would prefer ½ day workshops to full day workshops.2. Kevin Fussell reports that two LA I's and one LA II have been hired in Cataloging and are preparing to start work.
3. Janet Revenew reports that the survey she conducted regarding the Watson break room soda machine has come back with positive feedback. In fact, many respondents are interested in adding a snack machine to the break room; Janet has agreed to assume responsibility for trying to realize this desire.
Kent Miller is working on a universal code to the Watson break room, which will be provided to all Library staff upon completion.
Next Meeting: Discussion on the elimination of the Telenet service is postponed until the next meeting thereby enabling Helen Dee to fully participate.
Committee Rep. Reports: Report from Sue Hewitt on behalf of Classified Senate.
1. Classified Senate is seeking a volunteer to serve as Senator for the EEO4 job grouping, which represents all Library Assistants.2. The Classified Senate has decided to support specific tax increases at the Legislature, the details of which may be gotten from Sue Hewitt.3. Nothing is known, nor is anything expected to be known, about the health insurance increase until closer to the enrollment date, although informed speculation places the increase around 20%.4. Ola Faucher spoke to Classified Senate Executive Board about "bumping." Details may be gotten from Sue.
Group Reps. will begin questioning their constituents in an effort to judge the parity in work release for class attendance between departments.

In addition to the standing charge noted in the Code, three more standing
charges have been added to CC PC's mandate. These, as well as the FY03
