KU Support Staff Senate

Purpose / Responsibilities: The Senate exists to represent the interests of all Unversity Support Staff (USS)employees of the University of Kansas (Lawrence campus), to provide an open forum for the expression of those interests, and to bring those interests to the attention of the University of Kansas administration and other concerned individuals, organizations, and government entities. In pursuit of this defined purpose, the Senate addresses itself to the faculties, students, and staff of the University, to the Chancellor, to the Board of Regents, and to any of the various branches, departments, or agencies of state government on any matter relating to USS employment, the University, or the University's operation.

Membership: The Senate is composed of an elected President and Vice President and a body of 30 elected Senators. The thirty senators, each having one vote in the Senate, are elected in general proportion to the number of USS employees, permanent and probationary, in their EEO (Equal Employment Opportunity) categories. Unless there is a Senator who happens to be a member of the USS of the Libraries, the Libraries' relies on a "liaison" from the KU Library Support Staff (KULSS) to inform KULSS-Exec of the Senate's activities. Occasionally, KULSS-Exec will ask that some information be forwarded to the Senate.

Frequency of meeting: The University Support Staff Senate meets once a month. The "liaison" may attend meetings or contact a Senator to keep informed about the Senate's activities.

Current KU Library Support Staff liaison(s): Mary Ann Baker
