KULSS Executive Meeting
Thursday, December 17, 2009, 10:30-12:00
Milton's, Kansas Union
Present: Julie Warrick (chair), Nancy Hawkins (co-chair), Kristin Zachrel (secretary), Kyle Sederstrom (Group 1), Adam Reilly (Group 2), Meredith Huff (Group 4)
Absent: Sheila Orth (Group 3)
Holiday Party: Good food and lots of fun. Most of the people in attendance were from Watson because it was very cold. Music, Art/Architecture, and Spencer had their own parties.
Spring Conference: In the past the conference has been held on the Wednesday of Spring Break. Do we want to have it at the same time this year?
-Communications theme: Tracy Russo, Communications Studies faculty member, has material on generational differences and is happy to tweak her research to meet our needs. Her website has a lot of information on inter-generational staff relations. The difference in communication styles between different generations could be a possible topic.
-Interactive excercises to keep people engaged.
-Tracy needs to know the date. March 17th is the tentative date for the conference.
-Possible speakers: Tami Albin, who could speak about Social Networking (Twitter, Facebook), Web 2.0, and Google Wave. Sarah Kanning, Keith Russell, Julie Petr (subject specialist for Communications Studies). HawkDrive as a possible topic?
-Half day conference from 9 to noon at the Kansas Union. We need to start making reservations. We need to get approved to acquire money for food for breakfast (coffee, bagels). We need to find out what the budget is for food.
-Advertise the conference on the KULSS website, maybe even on the KU main page.
KLA is April 7-10.
There was an open house in Preservation. About 20 people attended.
