Workshop Planning

  • Ideas from the Wellness Center:
    • Presentation on tobacco, drugs, alcohol, blood pressure, blood glucose, nutrition.
    • Could give away Better Bite wraps.
    • Not sure enough people in the libraries smoke to do a session on tobacco but we could provide a pamphlet.
    • The preference would be to focus on nutrition.
    • Could supply brochures about the benefits of exercise but they don't do sessions on this topic.
    • Health people came to campus last year to do finger pricks to check glucose. Robert will check on this.
    • Robert will check with the recreation center and Robinson about exercise sessions: walking, taking the stairs, getting away from your desk.
  • Survey: need to add more options to the survey and add option for additional suggestions. Consider Survey Monkey for the survey. Get it together on paper first and then contact Beth and Mike about using Survey Monkey. We don't expect it will be a problem since it's an internal survey. We might get a better response if it's conducted electronically.

Other

  • Could do monthly staff crossword puzzles.

Group Reports

Group 1 (Adam):

  • Cataloging had a holiday party - it was great!

Group 2 (Julie):

  • Returns have picked up so staff are busy sorting and shelving. They expect it will be even busier next week.
  • There is a call for volunteers to pick up books from the book drops on the weekends, especially at Music & Dance and Art & Architecture because they'll be closed between December 24-January 3. The consequence of this is that staff from Anschutz and Watson will have to pick them up on the weekends.
  • There are 2 new hires in Acquisitions/Serials. Please welcome Jon Allen and Jessica Gish!

Group 3 (Robert):

  • Spencer
    • Finished interviewing the Special Collection candidates. Comments should be sent to Rebecca Smith by the end of the day.
    • Meredith met with Kent, Mary, Beth, and the lady who does the annex software, which will be implemented at Spencer sometime in the future.
    • Having a holiday party today to celebrate student appreciation and Susan Thomas' last day.
    • Still working on the reduction of the Reference collection.
  • Art
    • Mark Swails is doing Zotera workshops and giving tours.
  • Anschutz
    • The expansion of the cafe will start on Monday.
    • IT will work on expanding the wireless next week.
    • The service desk and reference stacks are being re-veneered to match the info desks. Names are being put up in areas of the library such as the info desk, research help, etc.
    • Handed out goody bags for student workers who are working on finals. Cake is available for them now too.
