Notable Government Documents: 2006 – 2010
This exhibit displays a sample of the United States federal documents recognized during the past five years as “Notable Government Documents.” The lists have appeared annually since 1983 as a means to "promote awareness and acquisition of government publications by libraries and use by library patrons.” The Notable Documents Panel, of the American Library Association's Government Documents Round Table, annually solicits nominations for the Notable Government Documents list in order “to recognize the individuals and agencies involved in producing these excellent sources of information and inspiration."
These, and hundreds of thousands of United States federal publications and online resources worthy of recognition, are part of the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) collections disseminated around the country. For over 150 years the Government Printing Office (GPO) has printed and provided access to a broad scope of United States federal government publications. Devoted to the mission of "keeping America informed," GPO’s Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) distributes official tangible government publications and provides online open access to authenticated digital information. The KU Libraries, designated a Federal Depository Library in 1869 and a Regional Depository Library in 1976, houses an extensive physical collection and provides access and reference assistance to the physical, as well as the increasingly ubiquitous, digital publications and information available via the open web.
