“One new HIV infection occurs every six seconds of every minute of every day.  Epidemics, however, are social processes not biological events.  As globally engaged scholars, our response must be guided not only by biomedical advances but also by understandings of the political, economic, and cultural forces that shape patterns of suffering and disease in local contexts.  It is only through an interdisciplinary approach that we can accurately convey the scope and the complexity of the AIDS pandemic and effect the changes necessary to limit the spread of the virus.”

For nearly three decades, our global community has faced the devastating effects of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. UNICEF and other global humanitarian and health organizations remain convinced that until an effective medical remedy is found, there is only one effective tool for curbing HIV/AIDS, and that is education. With this in mind, KU Libraries, along with partners across the University of Kansas, offer this exhibit to illustrate the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to AIDS awareness. KU Libraries is honored to showcase the work of KU scholars in this exhibition.
