Diversity committee meeting notes from December meeting
Present: Erin, Michelle, Ana, Pamela, Channette, Julie
Michelle is working on the website. It’s not ready, but at least it’s
in process.
Discussion of starting over on the Mission Statement for the Diversity Committee. Re-write and reword everything, including new icon/symbol to represent us. Erin earlier emailed an attachment with several ideas to choose/work from. She also has a friend who could design something for us.
Erin and Channette talked about the trip to ESU with other library administration.
Not much about diversity discussed at all. They essentially represented the
idea of diversity, without that being the focus (original intent of visit).
Questions asked included “do you advertise positions in minority places/newsletters/journals?”
(no).
Erin has and will continue to discuss concerns with Sharon.
More discussion of movie series and ‘Remember the Titans’ Date set for Jan. 18th or 19th. Channette will reserve CIC and we’ll all figure out goody options (popcorn, soda, etc).
Erin previously sent out an email list with our priority list, created nearly a year ago. Some things have been accomplished (ie, meet with KSU DIVCOM). Everyone please look over the list and reset priorities—e-mail Erin with suggestions.
Erin shared a holiday “family fun” occurrence, about how some people just don’t accept difference very well. (experienced at Thanksgiving).
