Diversity Committee Minutes: 10-15-03
Mary Adair, Interim Director and Assoc. Curator of the Antropology Museum,
came to talk to us about the possibility of setting up an exhibit, which
would feature library books and corresponding artifacts.
· We discussed the possibility of having the exhibit either in
Spooner or in Watson.
· We also discussed the following:
o Should the exhibit be open to only classes?
o Who does the scheduling in Spooner?
o We need to find out the rules of using the Spooner space should we need
it.
o Checking on the security of the cases in Watson, which would house the
artifacts.
o The Anthropology Museum’s collection is heavy on North American,
and Central American artifacts. They have some South American, African,
Asian, European, and Australian artifacts as well.
o We want the artifacts to highlight the diversity of the library collection
as well as inform people on what the Antropology Museum holds.
o We went over the possibility of having the archeology bibliographers
e-mail professors to bring their classes to the exhibit. We also figured
that tours of the library would mention the exhibit during the tours
o We discussed having the exhibit committee do the advertising for the
event.
o Possibly doing a pre-colonialism theme?
o Having the exhibit up during the month of March?
o Having the Diversity Committee go over to the Museum and help pick out
artifacts on a tour.
o Rose will e-mail everyone and find out the best time to schedule a tour,
should we have one.
Brown Bag with Dr. BeEtta Stoney: Reactions
*Some were kind of confused as to how the last part of the program fit
into the rest of the program.
*Everyone felt it was informative.
Other Future Events:
· Antropology Exhibit
· Dr. Glenn Adams – Workshop in December?
· Working Dogs Program – Rose will speak to Chanette about
this program.
· Sexual Harassment with Steve Ramirez – Elizabeth hopes
to solidify plans before she leaves. Possibly have this class in November?
· Diversity in Music – When? Who?
· Patriot Act – Event dropped for now.
Homework: Think of other event ideas and we will meet again after the
Antropology tour!
