Diversity Committee meeting notes
August 9th
Present: Erin, Channette, Ana, Michelle, Sharon and Julie
Are we aware of the pamphlets, “KU Prohibits…” (discrimination, etc)? Where to get these? (Strong Hall?)
Channette talked about assessment—why is it done?
1. What is it we want to know?
A. how patrons feel about service
B. know the diversity of the staff (comfort zone of working here, etc)
C. collections (diversity of collections)
a. do we have what people want?
b. Can they find it?
c. Is staff approachable in asking for help?
2. How big is survey taken? (must specifically ask permission when using human
subjects) When was the last survey? Results? Use same/different questions—when-where-how).
Survey should be timely and relevant—possibility of other univ. departments
doing surveys at the same time.
3. What is going to be done with the results?

Talked about when would be good to visit K-State. Wed. is best for most, several
dates picked to work around.
Erin talked about the SDC “5 Minutes to Excellence” workshop she attended in which they did drum circle exercises. She was obviously excited about it and thought there were some ideas and exercises from which we (or any group, really) could benefit.
Still no word on the webpage/master, but hopefully soon.
There was some discussion of a multi-cultural cookbook, possibly gathered from other campus groups, especially international students.
Brief mention of finding the wording of our mission statement from University Archives.
