The University of Kansas Libraries
KU Libraries Diversity Committee's Minutes Archive
July ‘06
Present: Erin, Channette, Michelle, Pamela, Sherry, Julie
Erin and Michelle talked about the Diversity workshop
they attended in May with Mr. Ngomsi, and specifically about the Yan-Koloba
game that they played and have purchased for the libraries. Mr.
Ngomosi is from Cameroon and a dynamic, exciting speaker. It was
suggested that we try to work with Staff Development to possibly get
him to come to the Librairies to speak, or maybe with HR for a University
wide event.
This game can be used to help develop teamwork, problem-solving skills
and is fun while learning. We agreed that this is something administration/management
needs to help develop and encourage.
At the next meeting we’ve been asked to “bring a friend” to
try out the game in actual play.
We discussed our priorities for meeting with the new Dean and the DivCom goals (particularly the internship position).
GOALS: 1 Internship 2 relationship to Dean- her ideas, meet more regularly 3 recruit new members! 4 website update 5 movie and reading series 6 network with other groups (KULSS, etc) 7 OPEN HOUSE! 8 have a presence at new student orientation as a component, not separate program
