Diversity committee notes
May 11, ‘04

Present: Erin, Channette, Michelle, Julie

Erin, Channette and Julie talked about highlights from the conference attended May 4-5. Comments about the workshops, atmosphere etc. were shared. Channette talked to Stella (informally) about the desire to get a librarian on the Diversity committee. We will ask Sharon to join us, as Sandy G. was our ex officio.

We discussed the University of Maryland’s diversity website—how their goals are outlined and the scope of their coverage.

Some of our goals/priorities: WEBSITE! Create and update
Representation, especially at the next
Div. in Libraries conference (2006)
Staff hiring and retention in all positions
Go outside the library to meet other div.
Committees on campus
Possibility of internship/relationship with
Emporia State
Mentoring
Video lunches/discussions

We also discussed emailing different groups on campus (minority and international student groups) about job openings and pools at the libraries.

We all agreed to do some web research on different universities and colleges and their diversity policies, as well as doing some database searches and article reading.
At a later point, Erin came around with some video previewing suggestions, based on some items we have here at KU.
