Diversity Committee notes 2 March
Erin, Channette, Sherry, Donna, Julie present
Our event for March (on the 16th) will be the short film ‘Grandmother
and the Raven’ presented by the filmmaker James Cisneros, from 2:30-3:30
in the CIC.
(location later changed to the Johnson Room at Spencer Research Library).
The film will also be shown at Haskell and someone will email about the event
being in both places. Sherry will bring some food snacks, Erin-plates, cups,
etc., Julie -soda, Channette- tea and juice.
We discussed having an event that could incorporate an exhibit that is up
at the Spencer about Black legislators and possibly have Deborah Dandridge
speak about this.
We solidified details about the DIVCOM Open House. It will be a come and go
as you please even over 2 hours in the afternoon of April 19th. We will try
to bring food that is specific to our individual heritages. Advertise campus
wide (especially all libraries) and send a note to Alison Lopez to be included
in the IS newsletter.
Donna spoke to us about some classes that she’s been taking. Three has
been strong emphasis on ‘knowing your user’ especially in bilingual
areas. She talked about learning differences in Latino/a and Asian cultures,
in respect to cultural gatherings. All in all it’s all about awareness
learning. Very interesting.
The Hall Center annual Oral History workshop was mentioned as time was running
out. Check websites for more info.
