  • architecture.com: all about architecture: RIBA

    One of the world's most extensive built environment portals, all courtesy of the Royal Institute of British Architects. The online catalogue includes an index to over 300 architectural periodicals held in the RIBA Library as well as the catalogue of the books, audio visual materials, photographs, drawings, and manuscripts acquired by the RIBA Library. It also has a biographical database of architects.
  • Architecture and Building

    Developed by Jeanne Browne, the architecture librarian at UNLV, this source remains one of the best directories of architectural information on the web. Links are organized by topic and have brief annotations along with the date when last seen by the author.
  • Asian Historical Architecture

    A photographic survey of Asia's architectural heritage with over 9000 photos of 595 sites in eighteen countries, and includes background information and virtual tours. This website is a collection of photos from many different contributors.

    BuildingGreen Suite offers articles, case studies and links to information on sustainable design issues, strategies, green building products, and current projects.
  • Catena: Digitial Archive of Historic Gardens + Landscapes

    A searchable collection of historic and contemporary images of historic gardens and landscapes that include plans, engravings, paintings, and photographs along with historic documents and bibliography.
  • Census of Antique Works of Art and Architecture Known in the Renaissance

    This multi-tiered database has more than 20,000 Renaissance Documents (inventories, guide books, lives of artists, archival documents, etc.) related to more than 10,000 Antique Monuments (sculptures, architecture, vases, etc.) that are accompanied by 30,000 photographs or illustrations. The collection of images includes: drawings, sketchbooks, paintings, engravings, sculpture, medals, applied arts, etc. The database can be utilized for its collection of images, but more extensive information is provided in the database. Monuments, their preservation history, provenance history, and other relevant information are accompanied by bibliographic citations.
  • Chartres: Cathedral of Notre Dame

    Working with the ULS Digital Research Library, Dr. Alison Stones (Professor of History of Art and Architecture at the University of Pittsburgh) created this comprehensive online image collection documenting the architecture, sculpture and stained glass of the Cathedral of Chartres, one of the most important monuments of Europe's cultural heritage. The image collection contains over three thousand images that can be searched by descriptive keyword or browsed by logical arrangement. All of the images can be displayed at a very high-resolution (3000 ppi).
  • Chicago Landmarks

    The Commission on Chicago Landmarks recommends to the City Council individual buildings, sites, objects, or entire districts to be designated as Chicago Landmarks, thereby providing legal protection. To be recommended, a building or district must meet at least two of the following criteria: critical part of Chicago's heritage, site of a significant event, association with a significant person, important architecture, important architect, distinctive theme as a district, or unique visual feature. It must also retain a high degree of architectural integrity. As of Jan. 1, 2005, 259 Chicago Landmarks have been designated by the City Council, including 217 individual designations, 38 landmark districts, and four district extensions, totaling 6,500 properties.

    A collection of over 5000 digitized images of buildings and cities drawn from across time and throughout the world, available to students, researchers and educators on the web. The images have been scanned from original slides or drawn from documents in the public domain. Researchers can search for buildings by country, city, style, title, architect, date of construction, as well as other fields.
  • CMD First Source

    Provides architectural, engineering and construction professionals free access to the industry's most comprehensive, up-to-date library of formatted commercial building product information, plus manufacturers' addresses, telephone numbers, trade names, and regional distributors. Users can search by: product, CSI code, manufacturer name, or general word search. Also the site for the Reed Design Registry, a directory of architectural firm that is searchable by name, location or focus.

    A project that specializes in community-based education bringing together educators, kids and community partners to effect change. Website offers activities and resources to carry out appropriate community outreach projects.
  • Cyburbia--The Planning and Architecture Internet Resource Center

    A portal site for urban planners and others interested in cities and the built environment, contains a selective directory of Internet resources relevant to planning and urbanism. Cyburbia also includes information about mailing lists and newsgroups, and it hosts a very active bulletin board and image hosting gallery.

    A daily newssheet with job postings, resumes, and professional news.
  • Emporis

    A database on architectural and building data with the goal of indexing all buildings and structures worldwide. It includes technical data, interesting facts, and photos for included buildings.
  • Green Builder: Sustainable Sources

    An online resource center for sustainablity - specifically, green building, sustainable agriculture, and responsible planning. Includes a directory of professionals, a building sourcebook, an event calendar, online forums, a materials exchange and more.
  • Historic American Landscape Survey

    A yet-to-be-funded project of the National Parks Service, HALS intends to include historic landscapes varying in size from small gardens to several thousand-acre national parks and from designed to vernacular, rural to urban, and agricultural to industrial spaces.
