Replacement Charges for Lost Library Materials

When an item become 30 days overdue, it is declared lost, and the borrower is issued a lost item billing (Fines and Fees Notice) that includes the replacement cost, a $20.00 processing fee, and when applicable, a $20.00 maximum overdue or recall fine ($60.00 for laptops), for each lost item.

Replacement costs are determined by a combination of publishing industry averages, specific cost determination by a library Subject Specialist, or by staff in Information Technology for equipment.

Short-term loans (two weeks or less), Reserve materials, and equipment items may be declared lost before 30 days overdue.

Adjustments in the amount may be possible if the item is returned in good condition.
